Active Learning and Sensory Path Stickers

So what is Active Learning and Sensory Path Stickers? Thankfully we've created a great little guide to walk you through the minefield of Active Learning through Sensory stickers

What are Active Learning Floor & Wall Stickers?

Our Active Learning Floor and Wall Stickers have been developed to support the teaching of Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing through indoor movement.

In North America this has become popular through #SensoryPathways to support children with Autism but our packs encourage cross-curricular learning for all through inclusive movement around a school by implementing interactive floor designs using self-adhesive stickers that even the children can implement the layout and fit themselves!

The floor stickers are designed to be large enoough to create and impact but small enough to be easy to fit, many even by the children.

By applying robust and safe floor stickers to corridors... you can you can instantly promote movement around the school.

The Facts Active Learning Floor Stickers and Sensory Pathways

Programmes in North America (#Don’t Walk in the Hallway) have found that by encouraging active movement within school building, teachers have found that children can increase their movement by roughly 1000 steps per day!

By applying robust and safe floor stickers to corridors and open indoors floor space you can you can instantly promote movement around the school. You will immediately notice children will then hop, skip, spin, jump, squat, push up… through the process of activity pathways which will benefit both physical and cognitive development.

Why Use Corridors for Active Learning   Tell Me The Figures!
The UK Government advises that children aged 5-18 should be active for 60 minutes EVERY day.

Why Use Corridors for Active Learning?

Our packs support the outcomes of the Scottish Attainment Challenge which was launched by the First Minister in February 2015 which underpinned by The National Improvement Framework, Curriculum for Excellence and Getting it Right for Every Child.

  • In 2013, the World Health Organization estimated the global cost of physical inactivity was approximately £41 billion in direct health care, plus another $11 billion in lost productivity.
  • A lack of physical activity contributes to nearly 2,500 deaths in Scotland and costs the NHS around £91 million per year.
  • The UK Government advises that children aged 5-18 should be active for 60 minutes EVERY day.
Tell me about the Benefits - ADHT & Autism   Tell Me The Figures!
Sensory “paths” using our Active Learning Floor Stickers can be used to create a “brain-break” for children who ned it.

Sensory Benefits - ADHT & Autism

When a child with a sensory processing disorder such as Autism is in a mainstream classroom they are processing all the things most others can tune out, simple things like sitting up straight, temperature, smells, others’ conversation. This may create levels of anxiety and subsequently they may require a “brain break” from the surrounding distractions.

These children may love jumping, hopping skipping and fast movement, behaviours which are difficult to accommodate within the classroom but by using areas outside the classroom, the child can still be supervised in an environment where they can benefit from “time out” activities where “jammed” neurological pathways can be cleared.

Our Active Learning Floor and Wall Sticker packs can be used to create sensory “paths” that can be used to create a break for children to be able to “reset” by processing simple activities like stepping, jumping, placing hands on walls, skipping or jumping on instructional shapes.

The Scottish Attainment Challenge - PEF Funding

Schools in Scotland who have access to PEF (Pupil Equity Fund) can utilise some of their budget towards our packs as they meet the criteria outlined by the Scottish Government. However, we have priced our packs so they can be affordable to all schools so that think making accessible movement to all pupils is attainable with a very low investment for immediate and impactful results.

If this all sounds a little risky we have produced a sample pack which offers a taste of how the packs works, let you see how easy they are to apply to floors and walls. These packs are made from stickers shaped as footsteps and instructions, like “Hop” or “Skip”. We are certain after you have seen the instant affect of just a small pack you will feel confident seeing a return on the investment of one or more of our full packs.

Our Company Director - a former Primary School Teacher

Richard McCombe (B.Ed Hons) graduated from Glasgow University in 1995 and was employed as a primary teacher within North Lanarkshire for 8 years. In 2003 Richard left to start Matic Media which is a signage and display graphics manufacturer. “This is a great project for us to be involved in. Coming from a formal education background with a passion for graphic arts, I was instantly attracted to the development of ways to merge what we have learnt in industry with my experience as a teacher. The results are amazing, and we’re keen to promote this product range to educational establishment so that they are affordable to all education establishments during times when budgets are under immense pressure.”
